The Owl And The Pussycat

The Owl And The Pussycat by Merry Sparks

Are you familiar with the silly little poem “The Owl And The Pussycat” by Edward Lear?  Here’s the first verse:

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
   In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
“O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
         You are,
         You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!”

This painting is of my Ragdoll cat “Dudley”, and he is my shadow, my friend, my cuddle, my laughter.  Dudley mostly sleeps in an upside down position with his legs up in the air and his tummy exposed and I bury my face in his tummy for a fix of soft, purring warmth.  His sleeping position looks as though he’s falling and so this is how I painted him, plus – I adore him – no other reason than that, and you can’t have an owl without a cat!  As for the fish – this is the one that got away.
