Bill Moss AM – I Will Be What I Am

It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know the very intricate, sensitive, passionate, patriotic and generous mind of Mr William “Bill” James Moss AM over the past 8 months and I have tried to capture a certain sensitivity and generosity, which not too many people are aware of, in my portrait of him for my entry in the Archibald Prize 2009 competition.

Modern Love

With this series, I’ve captured the essence of the character of my subject, with focus drawn to the eyes. You can paint anything you like with figurative work but in the end, it’s all about the eyes and your connection with them. We search for the eyes in a figurative painting and pause, searching for expression wanting to befriend them if possible, and then we are drawn to the rest of the painting. Then it’s back to the eyes.
