'I Shotgun – Gun and Pistol Pop Art Paintings'

In 2012 I visited the Tower of London and visually feasted on three decorative, bejewelled-with-real-BLING pistols donated to Queen Liz 2 from significant jewellers – Harry Winston, Tiffanys and Faberge. Utilising my creative eye on the spot, photography and even more creative skills back in the studio, they are featured in this series. Although I am against violence, somehow these guns are rather pretty and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to do this series.

I called the series “I Shotgun!” which is interpreted as “first in, best dressed”. It is a very vocal statement to demand the best or to be the first without consideration of others – rather selfish really. The phrase is used widely among Gen Y – a generation which fills my home on a regular basis. Members from this generation are very interesting, unique examples of the human species and they are not to be messed with.

So when I think of a gun, I think of Gen Y’s selfish phrase – “I Shotgun!” – I kinda love it.
